6 Simple Self-Care Tips for Busy Women

It’s More Than Spa Days and Facials

When life feels full, self-care doesn’t have to be an overwhelming task. It’s not all about facials, spa days, or nail appointments (though it can be for some). True self-care happens in the little, intentional moments throughout your day.

I used to think I wasn’t good at self-care. My idea of it was rooted in the external: perfectly polished nails, skincare routines, and regular trips to the salon. But that’s not really my style, I’m lucky if I make it to the hairdresser every two years! 😅

When I shifted my perspective, I started to notice the small things I was already doing for myself. These little moments of self-care were adding up and keeping me grounded.

Small Acts of Self-Care That Make a Big Impact

Here are a few ways I create space for myself in the middle of a busy life:

  1. Keeping Hydrated
My water bottle lives on the kitchen bench, right in the heart of our home. Having it in plain sight serves as a constant reminder to drink water throughout the day.

  2. Taking a Breather on the Floor
Sometimes, I lay on the floor and take a few deep breaths until my 2-year-old notices and decides to turn it into a wrestling match. These moments, however brief, are grounding and bring me back to center.

  3. Allowing Myself to Zone Out
A few nights a week, I give myself permission to zone out with some TV. Sure, I could spend that time working, but I know from experience that burnout is waiting down that path.

  4. Quiet Moments After a Shower
After a shower, I take a couple of extra minutes to just sit alone in a quiet room. These small pauses help me recharge.

  5. Wearing What Makes Me Feel Good
I’ve started wearing dresses most days instead of trying to force practicality with t-shirts and shorts. Turns out, I feel much more comfortable and confident in a pretty dress. Who knew?

  6. Showing Myself Compassion
As a working mom with a 2-year-old and a new business, some days slip away without time for any of these small acts of care, and that’s okay. Self-compassion is perhaps the most important form of self-care.

Redefining What Self-Care Means

Self-care doesn’t have to fit into a particular mold. It’s about finding what fills your cup, no matter how small or simple it seems. Even something as basic as eating your favorite meal can count as self-care - nourishing your body while enjoying the moment.

So, what’s your go-to self-care practice? If you haven’t thought about it yet, start small. The little things truly add up.
